We studied 4,105 posts published through PostQuickAI across Instagram, Threads, and TikTok. The data-backed best days, best hours (ET), and why high views ≠ engagement.

Most "best time to post" guides recycle the same third-hand advice. We did something different: we analyzed 4,105 real posts published through PostQuickAI across 82 accounts and 7 platforms between March 2025 and July 2026, matched each post to its actual view and engagement data, and looked for what actually moved the numbers.

TL;DR — what the data says

  • Best day for reach: Wednesday (≈2–3× the views of any other day).
  • Best day for engagement: Tuesday (highest engagement rate).
  • Best hour: 12–1 PM ET — engagement rate 3–10× the daily average.
  • Trap: the highest-view hour (1 AM ET) had near-zero engagement. High views ≠ real interaction.
  • Platform gap: Threads (~743 views) and TikTok (~712) earned ~8× the views of Instagram (~93) per post.

Methodology (so you can trust the numbers)

We joined every published post to its fetched analytics and kept the 4,105 posts that had recorded view counts. Times are converted to US Eastern (the modal time zone of the accounts in the set). "Engagement rate" is the platform-reported engagement over reach/impressions. This is observational data from real accounts — not a controlled experiment — so treat it as a strong prior, then verify against your own audience.

Best day of the week

Wednesday is the standout for reach, and the midweek (Tue–Thu) owns engagement. The weekend is quietly the worst time to post.

Best hour of the day — and the late-night trap

Here's the finding no recycled guide will tell you: the highest-view hour was 1 AM ET (305 avg views) — but its engagement rate was one of the lowest in the entire dataset (0.7%). That pattern is the fingerprint of automated distribution and bot impressions: lots of views, almost no humans interacting.

When you optimize for engagement rate instead, a completely different winner emerges — lunchtime:

The takeaway: post around noon–1 PM ET for engagement that actually converts to followers and clicks. Chasing the raw-view spike buys you a bigger vanity number and a worse audience.

Platform matters more than the hour

The biggest lever in the whole dataset wasn't when you post — it was where. Per post, Threads and TikTok earned roughly 8× the views of Instagram, and TikTok had the highest engagement rate of the three. Wednesday was the top view day for both.
